The University is dead Jim
There's no doubt that the university model (in the UK at least) is now unsustainable - change is inevitable. It's obvious what needs to be done to improve HE to deliver better value; but that alone won't be enough to protect the future existence of all universities.
Other models will arise (e.g. nano-degrees online, with a good link to a job prospect; micro-learning on demand within the workplace; and socialising down the local pub, without having to fork out accommodation costs ;-)
